What is your budget?  Can you afford to take 10+ days off from work?  Pay for hotel and food and entertainment that long?

My fiancĂ© and I just went on a 13 day business trip.  We were studying about the whole time we were there, so no entertainment costs.... I think we spent nearly $1000 on food for the time there, and we ate mostly deli sandwiches and stuff.  No steak or nice restaurants.  The hotel cost $1500, and that was the cheapest place near our conference building.

I'd say look online where you're thinking of going.  If you can afford it - by all means enjoy it!  You won't be able to take luxury trips when you have children

Hello ladies if you are looking to take a long or extended honeymoon I would say that you should become a member of some of the on line discount sights, like travelzoo,CheapCaribbean, travevelocity, I can say that I have gotten some relay great deals from each of these sites, I just recently flew to Osaka,Japan and got a great deal from travelzoo it was 438.00 American dollars round trip and that included all taxes and surcharges. That was a great deal. Also on CheapCaribbeans website I got five days all inclusive in the Dominican Republic for 485.00 and that included all taxes and surcharges. A bit of advice on the sites, remember they will send you an update on Wednesday to tell you the new deals available, also you have to be ready to buy because they tickets sell out fast and if you don't fall in love with the destination don't buy the ticket. I can give you a testimonial that I have had a blast on all my trips and would go again.

We took a 2 1/2 week honeymoon. it was great while it lasted but I went through some depression afterwards. It was a bummer going home.

i dont think there is a set time limit Depends on your personal preferrance and how long you want to be in a destination. You could be gone from a few days to weeks if you want. Just plan and watch your budget

As long as possible without breaking the bank.

I think first you should debate on what you like and don't, both of you, then plan to fit your budget, maybe save up abit if you can. I have seen some couples only go on vacations and spend too much, never budgeting proper.

Lauren918 has it right --- as long as possible wihtout causing financial hardship.

For me, that was 2 weeks. For other couples it's a week, or only a few days. Some couples go a month. Whatever you do - GO! If you do the whole "we'll wait unitl we can afford a 'real' honeymoon" - you might never go, and it's certainly a unique and special time that can't be replicated 3 years down the road.
