Let me Highly recommend having a destination wedding in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.  I have attended two weddings at the Iberostar Tucan/ Quetzal resort (they are mirror images of each other, where guests have access to all ammenities), and they were absolutely amazing!  The staff is eager to serve you, and there are activities all day, every day if you have children.  The couples had a quartet playing music along the beach as the wedding party and bride walked on the sand.  And, their photographer takes amazing pictures of the couples along the beach and in great candid poses. 

Playa Del Carmen is a great destination because you still have the beauty of Mexico, but not the "American-ization" or excessive crowds in Cancun.  Playa Del Carmen is along the Caribbean Sea, one hour south of Cancun.  Playa Del Carmen is a gated community several miles large.  It's actually like a gated city!  There are many resorts and beautiful private homes to see.  There's even a shopping center, so you can rent a scooter from the resort for about $25 for the day and go shopping.  Another great perk to the Iberostar resorts is that they're all-inclusive -- food AND liquor.  When we went to Playa Del Carmen 8 months ago, we paid $1200 per couple for 8 days and 7 nights.  It's an unbeatable deal!  (NOTE:  This was not at a group discount rate, since we actually booked our trip through our travel agent, not the bride & groom!)

So, if you're considering having a destination wedding, definitely look into the Iberostar resorts in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico!
