Is the forum registered as a separate website so that it shows up in search engines when people are looking for forums?  I think most people become involved with forums when they come across one while looking for specific information.

Other than that, the current members can start chain letters I mean that in jest.  But if people enjoy the forum, they tell a friend or two who will be getting married soon.  In turn, they each tell a few friends...  A referral program could be encouraged in some manner.
